The project

Launched in May 2014, WISE Power is an ambitious European project about the social acceptance of wind energy.

WISE Power aims at significantly improving local engagement and support for wind turbines while enhancing local community participation in the planning and implementation of wind energy projects. The project has a strong focus on alternative financing- such as community and cooperative funding of wind farms- as a method to enhance social engagement.

The geographical and multicultural coverage of the project is a strong asset, for the analysis focuses on 13 countries with different wind market maturity, ranging from advanced to emerging. These countries are: Denmark, Germany, UK and Spain – advanced; Greece, France, Italy, Ireland and Belgium –growth markets; Croatia, Finland, Poland and Romania – emerging.

The wind industry and other stakeholders will benefit from WISE Power project’s collaborative approach in the sharing of best practices designed to increase social acceptance. These new and improved approaches will include innovative participation models for financing wind projects.

The WISE Power project (IEE/13/528/SI2.674872) receives funding under the Intelligent Energy Europe programme of the European Union.

Project duration:  May 2014 to  October 2016.
